Jumu'ah (Friday Prayer) نمازِ جمعہ

Who must attend جمعہ کس پر فرض ہے

Jumu'ah is fard on every adult, sane, healthy, free Muslim man who is resident (not travelling). Women, children, travellers and the sick are exempt; if they do not attend they pray Zuhr (4 rak'ahs), but if they do attend, their Jumu'ah is valid.

جمعہ ہر عاقل، بالغ، تندرست، آزاد اور مقیم مسلمان مرد پر فرض ہے۔ عورتیں، بچے، مسافر اور بیمار مستثنیٰ ہیں؛ وہ جمعہ میں شریک نہ ہوں تو ظہر (چار رکعت) پڑھیں، اور اگر شریک ہو جائیں تو ان کا جمعہ ادا ہو جائے گا۔

Prepare: ghusl and cleanliness تیاری: غسل اور صفائی

Take a bath (ghusl), use miswak, wear clean (preferably white) clothes, apply perfume (men) and oil the hair. Many also clip nails and trim hair on Friday.

غسل کریں، مسواک کریں، صاف ستھرے (بہتر ہے سفید) کپڑے پہنیں، (مرد) خوشبو لگائیں اور بالوں میں تیل لگائیں۔ بہت سے لوگ جمعہ کو ناخن اور بال بھی تراشتے ہیں۔

Go early and walk جلدی جائیں اور پیدل چلیں

Go to the mosque early. The Prophet ﷺ said whoever comes in the first hour is like one who offers a camel, then a cow, a ram, a hen and an egg; when the imam comes out, the angels close their records and listen. Do not step over people's shoulders.

مسجد جلدی جائیں۔ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ پہلی گھڑی میں آنے والا گویا اونٹ قربان کرتا ہے، پھر گائے، پھر مینڈھا، پھر مرغی، پھر انڈا؛ جب امام آ جاتا ہے تو فرشتے رجسٹر بند کر کے خطبہ سننے لگتے ہیں۔ لوگوں کی گردنیں پھلانگ کر آگے نہ جائیں۔

Stop trade at the adhan اذان پر خرید و فروخت بند کریں

When the adhan for Jumu'ah is called, stop buying, selling and other worldly work and go to the mosque. After the prayer you may disperse and seek Allah's bounty.

جمعہ کی اذان ہوتے ہی خرید و فروخت اور دیگر دنیاوی کام چھوڑ کر مسجد کی طرف چلیں۔ نماز کے بعد زمین میں پھیل جائیں اور اللہ کا فضل تلاش کریں۔

Ya ayyuhal-ladhina amanu idha nudiya lis-salati min yawmil-jumu'ati fas'aw ila dhikrillahi wa dharul-bay'.

Meaning: O you who believe, when the call is made for prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade.

اے ایمان والو! جب جمعہ کے دن نماز کے لیے اذان دی جائے تو اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف دوڑو اور خرید و فروخت چھوڑ دو۔

Sunnah before Jumu'ah جمعہ سے پہلے کی سنتیں

On arriving, pray 4 rak'ahs Sunnah (as taught in the Hanafi school) before the khutbah begins, then sit and engage in dhikr, Durood and Qur'an recitation.

مسجد پہنچ کر خطبہ شروع ہونے سے پہلے چار رکعت سنت پڑھیں (جیسا کہ حنفی مسلک میں ہے)، پھر بیٹھ کر ذکر، درود اور تلاوت میں مشغول رہیں۔

Listen to the khutbah silently خاموشی سے خطبہ سنیں

When the imam sits on the minbar and the second adhan is given, stop praying and talking. Listen attentively to both khutbahs. Even telling someone 'be quiet' during the khutbah is idle talk. Do not reply to greetings or say Durood aloud.

جب امام منبر پر بیٹھ جائے اور دوسری اذان ہو جائے تو نماز اور بات چیت بند کر دیں اور دونوں خطبے توجہ سے سنیں۔ خطبے کے دوران کسی کو «خاموش رہو» کہنا بھی لغو ہے۔ سلام کا جواب یا درود بلند آواز سے نہ پڑھیں۔

Two rak'ahs fard with the imam امام کے ساتھ دو رکعت فرض

After the khutbah the iqamah is called and the imam leads 2 rak'ahs fard with loud recitation. Make the intention for 2 rak'ahs fard of Jumu'ah behind the imam. It is Sunnah for the imam to recite al-A'la and al-Ghashiyah, or al-Jumu'ah and al-Munafiqun.

خطبے کے بعد اقامت ہوتی ہے اور امام بلند آواز سے دو رکعت فرض پڑھاتا ہے۔ امام کے پیچھے دو رکعت فرضِ جمعہ کی نیت کریں۔ امام کے لیے سورۃ الاعلیٰ اور الغاشیہ، یا سورۃ الجمعہ اور المنافقون پڑھنا مسنون ہے۔

Sunnah after Jumu'ah جمعہ کے بعد کی سنتیں

After the fard, pray 4 rak'ahs Sunnah, then 2 rak'ahs Sunnah, followed by 2 nafl if you wish, as commonly practised in Pakistan.

فرض کے بعد چار رکعت سنت، پھر دو رکعت سنت پڑھیں، اور چاہیں تو دو نفل بھی، جیسا کہ پاکستان میں عام معمول ہے۔

Other Sunnahs of Friday جمعہ کے دن کی دیگر سنتیں

Recite Surah al-Kahf on Friday; send abundant Durood on the Prophet ﷺ; make much dua, especially in the last hour before Maghrib, as there is an hour on Friday in which dua is accepted. In Fajr of Friday, the imam's Sunnah is to recite Surah as-Sajdah and al-Insan.

جمعہ کے دن سورۃ الکہف پڑھیں؛ نبی ﷺ پر کثرت سے درود بھیجیں؛ خوب دعا کریں، خاص طور پر مغرب سے پہلے آخری گھڑی میں، کیونکہ جمعہ کے دن ایک ایسی گھڑی ہے جس میں دعا قبول ہوتی ہے۔ جمعہ کی فجر میں امام کے لیے سورۃ السجدہ اور سورۃ الدہر پڑھنا مسنون ہے۔

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammad.

Meaning: O Allah, send Your mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

اے اللہ! محمد ﷺ اور آلِ محمد پر رحمت نازل فرما۔
